Thigh Lift

The thighs are difficult to target through exercise alone and can often be the focal point of body concerns. Loose skin can create wrinkles and drooping in this area which doesn’t easily retract. In such cases, a thigh lift is an excellent surgical option to achieve firmer looking legs with taught skin.

FAQ

Am I a suitable candidate for a thigh lift?

A thigh lift is ideal for patients who are very close to their target weight. This procedure removes empty, sagging skin which does not respond to diet or exercise. If a small amount of fat is present, liposuction can be performed as an adjunct to the thigh lift to help create definition.

What happens during a thigh lift?

Incision patterns will vary from patient to patient and are dependent on the degree of lifting required. The most popular type of lift is performed on the inner thigh. In this case, an incision is made in the groin fold which extends downwards and wraps around the thigh. Your surgeon will then lift the skin and tighten with stitches.

If you are concerned about your outer thighs or saddlebags, outer thigh lift surgery could be beneficial. In an outer thigh lift the incision extends from the groin around the hip and across the back. Strategic and discreet incisions can be made, but in some cases the cuts can be extensive.

What should I expect after having a thigh lift?

Recovery time will vary from patient to patient and much will depend on the extent of your surgery. As a general rule of thumb it will take about two weeks to recover. During this time you should avoid any strenuous activities as this will impede the healing process in the long term. You should also persevere with compression garments to obtain a better aesthetic result. Compression garments effectively decrease the rate of swelling and pain, meaning that your swelling will subside more quickly if you continue to wear them.

How long do the effects of surgery last?

The results of a thigh lift are permanent if a healthy weight is maintained. However, in cases of considerable weight gain after surgery, fatty tissue will develop again. Maintaining your ideal weight will ensure that the results of thigh lift surgery will continue into the long term.
